As we have already begun to notice, office design has been undergoing a lot of change in recent years from open office, co-working environments, to a slew of amenities and gym spaces. However, according to Bisnow and their conversation with the architectural firm NBBJ, more change is on the horizon. More and more mixed-use applications will be at the forefront of design for office developments, as we tend to move away from a traditional office environment.

Some trends to shape office design in the upcoming decade include planning around the increase of ride-shares and potentially autonomous vehicles with outside urban pathways other than normal parking lots. In addition, sustainability has been a large market-driver as Environmental Social Governance (ESG) is already impacting buildings with increased focus of net zero and net positive buildings. Sustainability is a major driver in workplace design, as buildings will be designed to include shared, open, light-filled spaces focused on the wellness of employees and reducing CO2 use. Work campuses will transform from what was once one-use buildings surrounded by parking lots, to mixed-use urban spaces focused on human interaction.

Exciting times await as the work environment transforms!
